Popularly known as Rahgir, “traveler” Sunil Kumar Gurjar, is an Indian singer, songwriter, and music composer. He was born when I was graduating High School on 18 May 1993 in Sikar, Rajasthan. Rahgir gained recognition from his original compositions on YouTube. Exactly where I also found him and now writing about him and turning his music into art. He has traveled across India and performed in numerous colleges, schools, and streets. His stage name ‘Rahgir’ means ‘traveler’ and I love that as my journey into traveling started 4 years ago. He has travelled through 16 states in India with the aim to share his poetic compositions and melodies with anyone who would listen. Now, here we are in San Diego California listening to his music and bringing up our energy. Rahgir is known for his songs and albums like “Aadmi Bhutiya Hai”, “Mere Gaon Aaoge”, “Kya Jaipur Kya Dilli”, “Kachha Ghada”, and “Aakhir Teeli”. He has also written a book “Kaisa Kutta Hai”. Lets go over one of my favorite songs of his and what I love about it.
The Song: ‘Bhai Rahgir Ye Hum Kaunsi Gaadi Par Chadh Gaye’One of Rahgir’s most notable songs is “Bhai Rahgir Ye Hum Kaunsi Gaadi Par Chadh Gaye”.
The lyrics of this song, along with their English translations, are as follows:
1. “Abhi patjhad nahi aaya, abhi se patte jhad gaye” – Autumn hasn’t arrived yet, but the leaves have already fallen.
2. “Bhai Rahgir yeh hum kaun si gaadi pe chadh gaye” – Brother Rahgir, what kind of vehicle have we boarded?
3. “Abhi hai baap zinda, bete batvare ko lad gaye” – The father is still alive, but the sons have started fighting over the division of property.
4. “Reh ke bhookha, lad ke lekhak ban gaya” – Stayed hungry, fought and became a writer.

7. “Aur baatein bhi dochaar nahi, ek poori kitaab likhi” – And he didn’t just write a few things, he wrote a whole book.
8. “Thele pe samose ke, uske phir panne fad gaye” – The pages of his book were then torn on the cart of samosas.
9. “Kisi kachre se beej liya, kisi naali se paani” – Took a seed from some garbage, water from a drain.
10. “Phir unse khelkhelkar, kaati umar javaani” – Then played with them, spent my youth.
11. “Jab baag laga toh, nazrein tik gayi duniya waalon ki” – When the garden was planted, the world’s eyes were fixed on it.
Interpretation of the Song
The song is a commentary on the state of society and the struggles of an artist. Maybe that is why I love it so much. It feels like the lyrics reflect Rahgir’s journey as an artist, his struggles, and his observations about society. I drive Uber and notice the same patters in society and the song is a critique of societal norms and the pressures of conformity. It almost feels like he is saying, I will not comply. It is a call to action for individuals to stand up for their beliefs and not be swayed by societal pressures. Like birds of the same flock fly togahter.
