In this blog post, we delve into the details of my 3rd Uber ride that took place on June 20, 2023. From the beginning to its end, the earnings breakdown, and the unique passenger experience, we’ll explore every facet of this ride. Whether you’re an Uber driver seeking insights or a curious reader, this post promises to offer a comprehensive look into the world of Uber driving.
The Journey
The ride began at San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 where we have nothings but construction thanks to Southwest airlines. I dropped off the passenger at a private home in, San Diego about 20 miles north of airport. The atmosphere at the pickup location was typical of an airport terminal under construction – stressed out travelers. My plan for the ride was simple. Its Tuesday and slowest day for Uber do airport runs and then wait for 1 hour to get a ride back towards the airport.
The Passenger Experience
The passenger, named Marcel (fake name fyi), initially appeared frustrated due to some difficulties with loading his luggage. I could see it in his face as he was walking up holding two heavy bags. Huffing and puffing. However, as the ride progressed, a conversation about artificial intelligence and its societal implications helped to ease the tension. He was frustrated at my back seat and taking it out on my 2021 Toyota Highlander. Despite the initial challenges, the ride was smooth, and the conversation was engaging, highlighting the unpredictability and human connection inherent in the job of an Uber driver. I would love to edit the video and share it. Let me know in the comments.
Understanding Uber Earnings
The total earnings from this ride amounted to $50.14, which included an upfront fare of $39.30 and a generous tip of $10.84 from the passenger. The total customer price, excluding tips, was $72.30. Uber’s service fee was $19.08, which is used to improve the Uber platform and expand earnings opportunities for drivers. Chat GPT wrote the last line. lol for Uber. Its always nice to get a tip and I always say thanks in the Uber Driver App.
Pre-Ride and Post-Ride Insights
Before the ride, the driver was working on a blog article and setting up a report. The summary that helps me create blogs articles like this daily. After the ride, I reflected on the importance of not judging a book by its cover, as initial impressions can often be misleading. He gave me a Tip also because we had a nice conversation and I was able to talk to him.
The Bigger Picture
On this day, so far I covered a total distance of 90 miles. Despite some initial challenges, the overall mood and feelings are positive. Good energy level throughout the day and we are at $150 for the day in 3 rides.
